A Resident Event That Builds Community While Filling Your Plate
Resident events focused on food:
An easy event that your residents want to come to.
FOOD. We all love it, we all need it, we all get a little cranky when we don’t have it.
Coming together and sharing a meal is one of the most communal things in so many cultures, which means that it’s the perfect thing to center an event around to bring your residents together.
Food is one of the things that can instantly take you back in time to a memory that brings you joy. I’m sure you’ve been there… you’re out to eat with some friends and then all of a sudden you’re talking about how you used to eat PB&Js on the roof with your dad as a kid. Your story then sparks a memory in someone else and you’re BFFs by the end of the meal!
Give your residents that connection (which gives you that retention, hey-o!) by throwing an awesome cooking class event that’s just as fun as it is delicious! Team up with a local restaurant, a local food blogger or a resident that is a master chef in the making for this event.
your Recipe for a unique resident event for your apartment community
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!
1.) Reach out to local restaurants to see if partnering up is an option!
Offer to pay for the night of teaching, but if it’s not in your budget… offer to promote their restaurant as your go-to spot. Every time you order in for your residents go to them first, and put it on your list of “must-try” places for new residents.
2.) Decide on a menu and a time/date. Keep in mind that simple is best, so opt for a class that fits all levels of ability, but that will still be fun for residents!
Want something unique? Sushi - it’s fun. Not many residents will know how to make sushi beforehand, so this is a new skill they’d enjoy learning.
Want to keep it healthy? Try a classic with grilled chicken and veggies.
Have lots of families? Go Italian with family-style spaghetti and meatballs.
Have busy working professionals? Make it a meal prep party. Invite residents to bring their reusable containers to fill and take home.
3.) Prep ahead of the event. By washing veggies, measuring out ingredients, and preheating ovens you’ll save time and frustration for your residents. It makes for such a smooth event that they’ll want to come to the next one, too!
Take a ton of pictures and gather resident testimonials too!
