How to Turn New Year Resolutions into New Resident Leases

There’s something so exciting about January. Everyone seems a little extra inspired this time of year and encouraged to make steps towards their goals. There’s an optimism in the air that you just don’t get any other time of year.

People setting New Year’s resolutions should inspire your team to see how you can meaningfully contribute to helping your residents and prospects achieve their goals. Seth Godin, Master Marketer and Author, speaks about how important it is for companies and brands to have a meaningful impact on people's transformation. That’s where real connections happen.

Here’s the top 5 New Year’s Resolutions people are making:

  • Exercise more

  • Lose weight

  • Get organized

  • Learn a new skill or hobby

  • Spend more time with family and friends

Not too surprising right? Now think about what your apartment community offers to help your residents and prospects meet those goals.

They want to exercise more.

Highlight that BANGIN’ gym and workout space you have, spotlight some local fitness gyms near you (regular gyms, climbing gyms, yoga studios, etc.). You could look into hosting a yoga class, boxing class, or some other fitness classes at your community for your residents to enjoy.

They want to lose weight.

Combine that fitness center highlight with featuring some health food stores and restaurants around your community that will contribute in helping them reach that new lifestyle they want! Or better yet invite someone to come in and teach how to do healthy meal prep. This would be a great opportunity to partner with a local blogger/influencer.

Here’s some great social media graphics that all you SPROUT MEMBERS can download for January! search “get fit” to see the whole collection.

They want to get organized.

Do your apartments have space for some awesome organizational shelving? Or maybe the way your model unit is staged shows the PERFECT home office and organization. Show 👏🏼that 👏🏼off 👏🏼. By showing your prospects and even your residents what their life could be like in your apartment community, you’re creating a connection with them and your community that will work in your favor come apartment picking time.

They want to learn a new skill or hobby.

Do some digging around your apartment community and see what fun opportunities are nearby. Maybe you have a pottery business near you, or a painting studio, or maybe even a music or photography studio. You never know what might catch your prospects and residents attention so don’t be afraid to think out of the box. Pro tip: Tag the business in your social posts for a little extra cross-promotion opportunity.

They want to spend more time with friends.

Do you have the coolest resident lounge, pool area, grill space, or courtyard around? Of course you do! Now is the time to show everyone how they can take advantage of those spaces to connect with family, friends, and maybe even make some new friends with their neighbors! Let them know if they can reserve the spaces for private gathering and don’t forget to mention some of those super fun events that you’ve hosted in those spaces.

Want to know a secret? We just gave you at least 5 different pieces of content for your social media!

January 4th: Trivia Day

This is an awesome resident event waiting to happen, y’all! There’s something about a trivia night that loosens people up, gets people talking, and creates connections between everyone involved. If you decide to throw a trivia night event, don’t forget to pick some great prizes for the winners! Let’s be honest, prizes get the people there, but connections keep the people coming back.

January 6th: Cuddle Up Day

This is a great social media opportunity as you can showcase the coziest aspects of your community (that dreamy bedroom in your model unit perhaps?). You can also encourage some social engagement by asking residents to post their favorite cozy spot in their apartment.

January 9th: Law Enforcement Day

Use this day to thank local law enforcement, especially any that you may have living in your apartment community.
